Why we exist
It’s pronounced tah-beh-mahss — Japanese for ‘we eat.’
In late 2021 we sat with a restaurant owner in California who was paying $499 a month for an ordering website — nothing else. No POS. No KDS. No loyalty. No customer data. Just a website. The delivery apps were taking 30% commissions on top.
She wasn't unusual. Across thousands of small and mid-sized restaurants we saw the same pattern: fragmented tools, vendor lock-in, transaction fees on every dollar, and customer data they could never own.
The industry didn't need another POS startup. It needed someone to bundle the whole stack — ordering, POS, kitchen display, loyalty, AI — at a price restaurants already pay competitors. With zero transaction fees, on their own hardware, with their data staying in their hands.
